How to: Use Veoh and VeohTV (Page 1 of 5)

Veoh is a site where you can watch, download and upload videos. In terms of watching videos, back in the day, you could stream any video of any length. As it stands now, for videos longer than 20 minutes, you can only stream the first five minutes of the video. To stream the whole video, you need to download a copy of VeohTV - which is free. When it comes to downloading, everything must be downloaded through VeohTV, no matter what its length (see below). Uploading is generally good on Veoh. You can use the traditional route of uploading a file from your computer, or you can upload a file to Veoh that is already on the internet (on Stage6 for example). Using this method, a 90 minute video file will take less than 10 seconds to transfer to Veoh, and will be available within 20 minutes.

VeohTV and user-encountered problems

VeohTV is required for streaming and downloading video files from Veoh, however some people have been experiencing problems with the later revisions of VeohTV, such as it asking you constantly to upgrade, and it may be wise to remove the latest version of VeohTV from your computer and to download and install the previous, stable copy, which you can download by clicking here.

Videos are more than just 5-minute previews

When we, as link hunters, find Veoh links and post them here, it annoys us when people complain that these aren't the full videos; 'they're only the first five minutes' andthen post some hatin'. But the truth is you can watch the whole video without downloading. You just need to stream the video through VeohTV.

[b]Downloading and storing videos from Veoh

In the past you could download the original, high quality avi file, though now you can only download an flv (flash video) file, which is of a slightly lower quality. By using VeohTV for downloading, the videos are automatically downloaded into a folder on your computer that Veoh has control of. If something you have downloaded is removed from the Veoh website at a later date - let's say for a copyright violation - Veoh can remove the copy from your computer if you haven't moved the video file away from the Veoh folder. Here is a guide to downloading video files and ensuring that the file is not deleted from your computer at a later date.

FLV files

Downloading through VeohTV, Veoh have decided that, to save bandwidth, all videos will be lower-quality FLV files. These may be converted back to AVI files, but you will experience a drop in quality, and if the link is still active, you will find the below very useful.

Uploading

There are two ways you can upload a file; from your computer and from a URL. 'From a URL' is the faster of the two (a 90 minute video can be transferred to Veoh in a matter of seconds). Have a look in this thread if you want to make your uploads smarter.
