Re: The alluc FAQ

1.0 Mainsite - back to index

....1.1 Signing up & using your account
Although you can use the basic feature - watching videos on alluc.org - without registering, it provides a lot of privileges and uses, so I recommend everyone to sign up. Signing up is easy: click the Register Now button above the category-menu:

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/register.jpg

Now you have to enter a couple of details, make sure to use a real email-address, otherwise you won't receive your confirmation email! Also, do not forget to click the highlighted button to complete the registration!

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/register2.jpg

If you used the sign up form correctly, this window should appear:

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/register3.jpg

Your chosen username and email address are highlighted, so you can make sure your entered data is correct - if you notice a mistake, either email to support@alluc.org or simply re-register with a new username! In order to finish the registration process, you just have to click the according link in the registration mail you will receive. Important! Your email provider might classify emails from alluc.org as spam. Make sure to check your spam/junk folder or add registration@alluc.org to your contacts to avoid your activation link getting lost! If every went well, clicking on the confirmation link will forward you to the following screen:

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/register4.jpg

You are now logged in and may enjoy all features of alluc.org! Have fun!

........1.1.1 Your profile - back to index
Well now that you're signed up, let's check out your profile!

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/profile1.jpg

Looks quite.. boring, huh? Luckily there are measures to spice it up!
First of all, let's get rid of that annoying black "no avatar" box! In order to do so, click on 'Edit profile' right below the category-menu"

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/profile2.jpg

There is more to editing your profile then changing your display picture, but for now let's focus on that. Just click on the highlighted button and choose an image from your harddrive. Don't worry about file sizes, if your picture exceeds the limits, it'll be resized automatically! To apply the changes, click the update button on the bottom of the edit profile menu. Yeah the bottom. You might need to scroll down for that. ;-) Clicking on the update profile button redirects you automatically to your profile overview, so let's check out our profile..

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/profile3.jpg

Hmm.. not bad for starters ;-)

.........1.1.2 Messages - back to index
There comes a time when you might want to contact other alluc members. May it be requesting a link for a show, saying thanks, or requesting help from me [-> Moon]! :-) For that very purpose we have a Personal Message System (PMs) which basically is an alluc-internal mailbox. First of, you need to find the one you want to write a message. There are basically 3 methods for that.

1. Using the Member Search

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/membersearch1.jpg

The member search is pretty self-explanatory. Click the Member Search Button in the navigation menu on the left, enter a username and chose from the results.
Clicking on any username in that list redirects you to the according profile. Click the "PM User" button next to the user avatar and scribble down whatever you want..

2. Clicking on the names next to the links (these names do indicate who submitted the link you are watching, by the way.. it doesn't hurt to say thank you once in a while ;-) ) or in the Top-Poster list

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/Links.jpg

Yeah, as I said, click a name in any list, may it be a linklist, the topposter list, the search results or whatever. Clicking on an username redirects you to the according profile. Click the "PM User" button next to the user avatar and scribble down whatever you want..

3. If you know the name of the user you want to write to, the direct Messaging via the Message System in your profile.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/membersearch3.jpg

The third method does not only grant you to write new messages to users, it also contains all messages you received ( "Inbox" ) and all the messages you sent ( "Outbox ). Writing a new message is possible via the "New Message"-Button (obviously default/wink )

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/membersearch4.jpg

Just enter username & subject of the mail and scribble down whatever you want.. just like a real email! :-)

By the way! If you receive a message, the "Your Profile" Button in the left menu changes it's color. The figure in the brackets is the number of unread messages :-)

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/membersearch5.jpg

Have fun messaging! default/big_smile

.........1.1.3 The Shoutbox, the Watchlist & the About me feature - back to index
Remember your shiny new profile? It only has an avatar so far, but you should've noticed other features of your profile as well already ;-) As i promised, there is more to it!

The Shoutbox

Do you see that (presumably) empty box on the right of your profile? that's the shoutbox. Every registered user (including yourself) can leave so-called "shouts" in this box. Everybody can read these shouts - but in your own shoutbox you also have the exclusive right to delete unwanted shouts again default/wink

For starters, let's shout into our own profile:

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/shoutbox1.jpg

...hehehe.. click save!

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/shoutbox2.jpg

Tadaaaaa! Awesome isn't it? Happy shouting!

The Watchlist

This feature is especially useful for users that watch a lot of shows and can't keep track of where they stopped watching by themself default/wink
You probably already noticed the http://s13.alluc.org/images/watchlist.png-icon next to links? Clicking it adds the selected item to your personal watchlist! You can view your watchlist via your profile.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/watchlist1.jpg

You can access the links in your watchlist directly, without having to search through the database first. Save your favorite movies in there, or just set up a list of yet-to-watch shows. It's your choice!

On a sidenote: By default, the watchlist is public - If you do not want others to see your watchlist, please change your privacy settings in your profile (Edit Profile).

The About me feature

This feature is the newest addition to the user profiles. It's purpose is to write a brief text about yourself, which movies you like, which links you can hunt, why you chose THAT avatar or why you hate school. It's all up to you! The only exception is: No URLs default/tongue .. You can edit that text in the Edit Profile Menu, which you should already know quite well..!

In the Edit Profile Menu, there is a big textbox on the bottom. Just type in your description, optimize the text with the BB-code text below the box & press update profile!

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/aboutme.jpg

Now, that's cool, isn't it? I'm sure you can do better than me in your description! default/wink  (and in paint as well-.- )

Re: The alluc FAQ

.....1.2 Watching videos - back to index
Navigating through alluc is easy: Select the desired Category from the category menu.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/Linksubmitting1.jpg

Now find the desired item by using either the search, the alphabetical list or the new links window. In the last step, simply click on the Episode/Movie you want to watch. You are redirected to our disclaimer now - after clicking on the "continue to content" button you will find yourself on the desired hostingsite and the video will load!

........1.2.1 Installing the right tools - back to index
Alluc.org links to Streaming sites such as youtube, megavideo, veoh, stagevu and many more. To view the streamed videos on these sites, it's required to have the right software. Mainly you will need:

Adobe Flash Player is required to watch videos in flash-format - that's needed for most megavideo, youtube and other low-quality links.

DivX Web Player is required to watch videos in High Quality & HD. Even Youtube has a HQ/HD upload option nowadays, so this is the software you are looking for. Just choose the divx-version fitting for your OS and in the installation process -after the download - make sure to check "DivX Web player" in the installation menu, this is the one you are rooting for to watch High Quality Streaming Video!

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/divxplayer.jpg

by Moon 07/15/2009

........1.2.2 RSS-feeds - back to index
You can subscribe to our RSS-feeds to stay informed, whenever a new link is posted in a TV-Show or movie you want to subscribe to. Click to watch an useful explanation in Plain English!

........1.2.3 Concerning time limits on megavideo and veoh
Some hosting sites have measures to cut your daily watching time. In most cases you need to either buy a premium account to extent your watchtime or download certain software. Luckily there are workarounds for these things, so that you neither have to pay nor have to download unwanted software.

Megavideo:
20 % of our link database contains of megavideo links. Megavideo has a 72 minutes time limit. After watching 72 minutes on megavideo, you have to wait an hour to continue watching. This is annoying especially for movies. A premium account deactivated the time limit and also gives you the possibility to download faster from megaupload.com. It is a good investment, but if you don't want to spend that money, I recommend Illimitux - Simply copy the megavideo-url of the desired video into the URL-field on the bottom of the illimitux website and watch freely. Illimitux currently supports 20-something websites besides megavideo.. for example:

Veoh:
Veoh-links have the biggest share of our link-database, around 30 %. Unfortunately, veoh requires you to download their Veoh Player to watch videos longer than 30 minutes. They have a web player too, which does not really require you to download something, but  it is still kinda weird. As i mentioned, Illimitux supports veoh-links as well. So just copy&paste the movie URL into illimitux and watch the movie freely. By the way, illimitux developed an add-on for Firefox! Download it here - This add-on enables you to watch links on illimitux with just one click. yay! If you do not have the firefox browser, you can download it here: www.getfirefox.com

There are more sites like this, but illimitux deals with them all... problem solved! default/smile

........1.2.4 Broken links & harmful links - back to index
You may come across non-working links on alluc. In most cases, the hosting sites deleted the video without us noticing. The hosting sites do so to protect themselves law-wise. If you encounter a broken link, simply use the [attention-IMAGEEEE]-Button to report it. You have the possibility to specify the reason for your report. if the video just does'nt work, "broken link" is a more than fitting description. In some cases, you may wanna report a link for other reasons than the availability of the desired video. Although alluc tries its best to maintain high quality links on the whole site, some times malevolent links slip through:

  • Some video-sites may have embedded spyware or other harmful tools into their website

  • Sometimes a video might be in the wrong language or have wrong subtitle

  • Sometimes the label of a video might be wrong - this mostly happens in the TV-Show section due to typos - Also the Label might be irritating or contain a lot of weird characters.

In these cases please use the report button to flag those links. The more specific your description is, the better we can deal with the report... Thank you very much!

Re: The alluc FAQ

....1.3 Linkhunting - back to index

Linkhunting means the finding of links on hosting sites and publishing them on alluc.org to make them available for a broad audience. Without the many linkhunters out there, there would not be any content on alluc! Linkhunters are generous people that like to share what they like best: Entertainment!
Linkhunting is easier than you might guess at first, and you are welcome to give it a try! And maybe some day, you will be on the Top-Poster List together with famous linkhunters like tanyabug, Arina or the current top-poster monkeyface87 (and me, Moon! default/pimp )!

........1.3.1 How to linkhunt - back to index
Fortunately, the well-established alluc longtime member and Top-5-Linkhunter BJ (aka Bonyjoe) wrote a tutorial for linkhunting already! You can find it here: http://board.alluc.org/viewtopic.php?id=55353
Additionally, there is a tool, that makes the collection of links a lot easier: The clipboard logger by frogz!. It "remembers" which URLs you copied to your clipboard, and lists them for you, so that you can submit a lot of links at once without having to switch between alluc and the hosting sites all the time!

........1.3.2 Submitting links to alluc - back to index
To submit links on alluc, click on the category your links belong to from the category-menu.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/Linksubmitting1.jpg

You have the choice between submitting a link and submitting a linklist!

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/linksubmitting2.jpg

Let's deal with submitting a link first. After clicking on the Submit-a-link button you are redirected to the submit-form. All you have to do now is to fill out the form and you're done!

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/linksubmitting3.jpg

In our example we will submit a movie-link. First, enter the movie title in the Movie-field. The Auto-Fill-script will suggest names of existing movies to you as soon as you start typing, it is searching through the database whenever this Icon is displayed next to the form: http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/refresh.jpg. In most cases, there already is a category for the link you want to post, so you might wanna select the movie from the suggestion box.

The second step is selecting the genre(s). You can select multiple genres by holding down the CTRL-Button and left-clicking with your mouse  on the desired genres. You can select up to five genres! If you are unsure about what genre you movie is, try to enter the name on www.imdb.com - The internet movie database. It most certainly provides you several genres the movie does belong in default/smile  P.s.: Genres exist only for Movies, Documentaries, Music- & Sport Videos. For Cartoons, Anime & TV-Shows, this field is replaced by the "season"-Field.

Next you have to fill out the Part/Title field. This is the label-field. Whatever you enter here will be displayed in the database later. You can not change it once you have submitted the link, so be sure to fill this field out correctly! There are several ways of labeling your link:

If your movie is splitted into several parts, please label the links somewhat along the lines of "Part 1/4, Part 2/4, Part 3/4, Part 4/4" and so on.. If you provide a link to the complete movie, please name your link either "Full Movie" or just enter the name of the movie in here again.

Now you can fill out the last field - "Link": In this field you enter the link of the movie you hunted. The form is filled out! Please check if all the information you entered are correct.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/submittinglinks4.jpg

Now you have several choices. To the right of the form are three buttons: [Save], [Submit] & [Delete].

  • [Save] is used to just save your progress, if you are working on a longer list  that you do not want to publish yet. Whenever you visit the submitting-page again, your saved progress is loaded automatically and you can continue filling out the submit form.

  • [Submit] is the button you need to press to submit your link to alluc. It won't show up on the mainsite - as long as you are not a premium poster - first the admins need to confirm that your link is legit. After posting a lot of links you will be automatically promoted to premium poster and receive a little gift, too! default/wink The confirmation of your link may take up to 24 hours, but rarely more than that. Please don't be impatient, the admins have offline lives too! default/300px-718smiley.svg

  • [Delete] simply deletes the form you just filled out.

You may have noticed, there are three buttons below the form as well, [New], [Save all] and [Submit all]

  • [New] adds another form for a single link to the site.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/submittinglinks5.jpg

  • [Save all] works just like the [Save]-Button, but for applies to all forms you have created.

  • [Submit all] works just like the [Submit]-Button, but applies to all forms you have created.

Alternatively, you can use the check-boxes on the right upper corner of each form and save/submit only the selected forms using the two buttons on the lower right of the submit-screen.

You now know how to submit single links, but sometimes you want to post a lot of links at the same time. For example if you found a whole season of a certain show. For this case we have the linklist feature!

Submitting a linklist

Remember how to post a single link? Choose the category your links belong to, and click the submit a link button. This time we'll deal with the submit linklist tool, so click on that one this time. In my example we submit a season to a tv-show!

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/submittinglinks6.jpg

First, enter the name of the series (AutoFill-Script again!) and the season your links belong to. In most cases both, the series & the seasons have already been created, so pay attention to the suggestions from the AutoFill-Script. Now you just have to copy&paste all the hunted links into the URL-field:

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/linksubmitting7.jpg

After clicking the [save]-button on the top left of the form, all that's left to do is enter the label - for example the number of the episode or the name of the episode and click the [submit all]-button!

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t139/Mooney_022/linksubmitting8.jpg

Congratulations! You now know how to post single links and linklists! Thanks for your contribution!

by Moon 07/17/2009

........1.3.3 Poster of the month awards - back to index
Apart from the respect and thanks of our members and eventually being promoted to premium poster, there is more to submitting links to alluc! Once a month, the linkhunter who submitted the most links gets a 3-month premium account for rapidshare.com! Good luck with that!
